Gamecenter: Boston University 78, Harvard 74

Key sequence: An Omari Peterkin three-point play staked Boston University to a 71-62 lead with 4:02 left in the contest before Harvard mounted a 7-0 run, drawing within two on a Brian Cusworth free throw line jumper with 1:23 remaining. Cornell loses 2005-06 ROY Gore for season

The euphoria of Cornell’s season-opening upset of Northwestern was short-lived, as news came on Monday that star guard Adam Gore will miss the rest of the 2005-06 season with a knee injury. The Ithaca Journal reports the 6-0 guard tore his ACL in the win in Evanston on Friday, and will require season-ending surgery. Last season’s Ivy League Rookie of the Year was off to a strong start, leading the team in scoring with 20 points at Northwestern. Assuming no eligibility problems with the school or the league, Gore should qualify for a medical redshirt year.

Gamecenter: Stony Brook 72, Cornell 76

Key sequence: With Cornell holding a six-point lead with under two minutes left, Stony Brook’s Mitchell Beauford got inside, drew contact, and got the shot to fall. He hit the free throw to cut the margin to three, and after Big Red freshman Louis Dale was whistled for a five-second violation on the subsequent possession, the Seawolves made it a one-point game with a layup by Brandon Hickson. Brian Kreefer got off a shot just before the shot clock expired, but it wouldn’t fall. However, Stony Brook was whistled for a loose ball foul on the rebound, and Andrew Naeve capped off a big night by hitting both free throws to restore the Big Red lead to three with just 27 seconds left.
