Inside the Ivy

Game of the Week
Cornell (20-5, 12-0 Ivy) at Penn (11-17, 6-5 Ivy) – Friday, March 7, 8:00 pm ET
Last year’s Cornell-Penn game at The Palestra was a thoroughly entertaining contest that had everyone talking about the bright future of the Big Red. Steve Donahue would be losing Andrew Naeve, the senior that had carried the team in Ivy play, but a nucleus led by freshmen Louis Dale and Ryan Wittman was a major cause for optimism in Ithaca. Fastforward one year, and with the records nearly reversed, Glen Miller is in a very similar situation with Brian Grandieri set to graduate and promising first-years Tyler Bernardini, Jack Eggleston, and Harrison Gaines establishing themselves.

Game of the Week
Harvard (8-18, 3-7 Ivy) at Cornell (18-5, 10-0 Ivy) – Saturday, March 1, 7:00 pm ET
Barring shocking road upsets by both cellar-dwellers Princeton and Dartmouth in the home gyms of the top two teams in the league, Cornell should be poised to punch its ticket to the Big Dance with a win on Saturday. They’ll get the chance to do so against a Harvard team that is coming off a huge sweep of Princeton and Penn and will be looking for some revenge for what the Big Red did two weekends ago in Boston.

Game of the Week
Brown (14-8, 6-2 Ivy) at Cornell (16-5, 8-0 Ivy) – Saturday, February 23, 7:00 pm ET
Assuming Brown can find a way to win at Columbia the previous night, the Ivy race will come down to Saturday’s showdown between first and second in Ithaca. If the Bears can avenge their February 1 home loss to the Big Red, we could have a bona fide, down-to-the-final-weekend Ivy race on our hands for the first time since 2001-02. A victory for the hosts will mean a final two weeks that consists of the familiar talk of magic numbers and seeding predictions, with the only change being the fact it will a school not beginning with a “P” making postseason plans.

Game of the Week
Brown (12-8, 4-2 Ivy) at Penn (7-14, 2-2 Ivy) – Friday, February 15, 7:00 pm ET
Depending on what happens on Tuesday when Penn and Princeton get together, Friday’s meeting in Philadelphia could be between the only remaining two-loss teams in the league, which could make it a virtual elimination game.

Game of the Week
Penn (7-12, 2-0 Ivy) at Cornell (12-5, 4-0 Ivy) – Saturday, February 9, 7:00 pm ET
Both teams still have Friday games to get through first — and Pomeroy gives Penn just a 15-percent chance of winning at Columbia — but the atmosphere at Newman Arena should be electric Saturday night, with a full house expected. Given the way Cornell is playing these days, the game itself shouldn’t be that close, but even in the event of a blowout, the crowd would be witnessing something important.
