Keys to the Game
Key sequence An Omari Peterkin three-point play staked Boston University to a 71-62 lead with 4:02 left in the contest before Harvard mounted a 7-0 run, drawing within two on a Brian Cusworth free throw line jumper with 1:23 remaining. After a stop at the other end, the Crimson had a chance to tie or take the lead, but with the shot clock running low, Harvard settled for a 22-foot Goffredo three-pointer. The shot wouldn’t fall, and the Crimson was forced to foul intentionally.
Key sign it was over Harvard got the break it needed when Tyler Morris missed a free throw with seconds left, giving the Crimson a chance to tie. But the Terriers smartly fouled Drew Housman before he reached the half-court line, to guard against the three-pointer. Housman hit the first and intentionally missed the second. Evan Harris and Jeremy Lin both got their hands on the loose ball rebound, but couldn’t corral it. Harvard had to foul Ibrahim Konate, who hit both free throws to put away the game.
Key performance With an NBA scout in the house, Brian Cusworth had a big game. He was the game’s high scorer with 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting — including 2-for-2 from three. Cusworth also added nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and a steal.
Key statistic The Terriers’ 29-11 edge in points off turnovers. Harvard lost the turnover battle 20-13, and BU made them pay, scoring over one-third of its points off Crimson miscues.
Notes

– The win was BU’s sixth-straight over Harvard.

– BU redshirt freshman Tyler Morris led the Terriers with 22 points on 8-for-15 shooting, including 3 of 6 from three-point range. Morris added five assists and three rebounds against just one turnover, while playing 38 minutes.

– The Terrier bench outscored the Crimson reserves 30-14, though Frank Sullivan got a strong effort off the bench by Brad Unger, who had another double-digit scoring outing with 10 points.

– After a big performance in the season opener, Goffredo struggled with his shot against BU, finishing just 2 of 10 from the field and 1 of 6 from three-point range.

– In his postgame comments, Sullivan admitted it was tough preparing for the Terriers because of a new offensive scheme and rampant turnover in personnel.

– Harvard next heads to Michigan to take on the Wolverines on Friday, November 17 at 7:00 pm ET. The game will feature a good matchup in the middle between Cusworth and Michigan standout Courtney Sims.
