Cornell loses 2005-06 ROY Gore for season

The euphoria of Cornell’s season-opening upset of Northwestern was short-lived, as news came on Monday that star guard Adam Gore will miss the rest of the 2005-06 season with a knee injury. The Ithaca Journal reports the 6-0 guard tore his ACL in the win in Evanston on Friday, and will require season-ending surgery. Last season’s Ivy League Rookie of the Year was off to a strong start, leading the team in scoring with 20 points at Northwestern. Assuming no eligibility problems with the school or the league, Gore should qualify for a medical redshirt year.

Slant: With Jason Hartford already possibly out for the year, this is a very tough break for Cornell. Gore was part of what appeared to be one of the better three-point shooting backcourts in the league this season. Perimeter depth now becomes an issue for Cornell, as this means Graham Dow and Louis Dale both will start, leaving Jason Battle, unrecruited guard Kevin App and injured wing Geoff Reeves as the reserves. Interestingly, Dale, Gore, Reeves, freshman standout Ryan Wittman, and talented USC transfer Collin Robinson all are going to have three years of eligibility remaining next season, which means Steve Donahue shouldn’t have to worry about recruiting perimeter players for a year or two.
