Keys to the Game
Key sequence With Columbia trailing by five early in the second half, Brett Loscalzo committed an offensive foul give the ball back to Cornell. Cornell’s Adam Gore nailed a three-pointer to stretch the margin to eight, then Loscalzo turned the ball over again on the Lions’ subsequent possession. At the other end of the floor, Loscalzo fouled Gore shooting a three-pointer, and the Rookie of the Year frontrunner hit all three free throws to give the Big Red a double-digit lead. Columbia would get no closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Key sign it was over John Baumann stole the ball with Columbia down 14 and 4:35 left in the game, but missed the layup. After a Cornell offensive rebound off a blocked three-pointer, Graham Dow provided the dagger with a jumper that gave the Big Red a 16-point lead with under four minutes left.
Key performance Cornell guard Adam Gore. The freshman scored a career-high 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. He knocked down 5 of 8 three-pointers on the afternoon, while dishing out 3 assists against just one turnover. Gore didn’t score his first point until nearly the midway point of the first half and tallied 18 of his game-high 28 after halftime.
Key statistic 47-11. Cornell starters Graham Dow and Adam Gore outscored Columbia’s starting backcourt by 36 points. This was largely due to Dow and Gore shooting a combined 17 of 25 from the field, while Loscalzo and Cuff hit just 3 of 14 shots between the two of them.

Notes
Despite a reputation for splitting their travel partner series, this was only the fourth time in the last 15 seasons that Columbia and Cornell have done so. This was the first time in that span that the road team won both games.

Cornell has dedicated its season to teammate Khaliq Gant, who remains hospitalized in Elmira following a severe neck injury suffered in practice earlier this week.

Columbia went on a 12-0 run near the end of the first half and led 37-34 at intermission.

The Lions recorded just eight assists in the game against 16 turnovers.

Cornell’s 81 points on 63 possessions was its best offensive performance of the season — and the worst defensive performance by Columbia so far this season.
