Keys to the Game
Key sequence After Rutgers had gone on a 9-1 run to tie the game at 31 early in the second half, Lincoln Gunn stopped the bleeding with a three-pointer, but Earl Pettis answered in kind to equalize. Noah Savage put Princeton back on top with a jumper, but J.R. Inman dunked and was fouled, hitting the free throw to put the Scarlet Knights in front, 37-36. After a Jaron Griffin bucket, Gunn tied things up with a three, only to see Griffin answer with a three-pointer of his own just before the midway point of the second half.
Key sign it was over Two Griffin free throws broke a 48-48 deadlock with 61 seconds remaining. Princeton had a chance to draw even or take the lead, but Inman tipped the ball away from Savage and it went out of bounds to Rutgers. The Tigers fouled Corey Chandler, who missed both free throws, but Inman corralled the offensive board, and Chandler went back to the line, where he was perfect that time on two attempts. Trailing by four, Princeton got a Kyle Koncz putback of a missed Gunn three-pointer, but Anthony Farmer put away the game with two free throws with six ticks left.
Key performance Inman proved tough to slow down, finishing with a game-high 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds in 35 minutes.
