A week of tough games against quality opponents started rough, with Ivy teams going 2-9. However, Saturday and Sunday provided some excellent wins, with the league putting up a combined 5-1 mark against some very decent opposition, including the first major conference scalp for an Ivy team this season.

1. | Cornell (3-1) | 3 | Home has been very sweet home for the Big Red, and fans at Newman Arena are being treated to a very attractive, up-tempo, high-scoring brand of basketball. With the ability to run five guys out there all capable of knocking down a three, Steve Donahue has created a nightmare for opposing defenses. |
2. | Brown (2-2) | 3 | Another season, another early upset of a major conference opponent for Craig Robinson, who returned to Chicago and took down his former employer, Northwestern. We know Brown is going to get outstanding play from its senior guard tandem, but now Scott Friske is stepping up. |
3. | Yale (1-3) | 2 | Following a respectable showing at Stanford, Yale ended up on the wrong end of an ugly result against top-ranked UCLA at Pauley Pavilion. The Road Trip Only John Chaney Could Love wraps up this week at undefeated Holy Cross, as the schedule turns to teams in the Bulldogs’ own weight class. |
4. | Harvard (2-4) | 1 | There’s no shame in losing at Holy Cross or Providence — two of the top programs in New England — but there wasn’t the desired carryover from the big wins the previous week. Perhaps the return of captain Brad Unger will help a frontcourt that has been way too inconsistent so far. |
5. | Dartmouth (2-3) | 6 | After coming up just short of pulling off a shocker at Rutgers, Dartmouth went down to Hamilton and knocked off a Colgate team that had been playing very good basketball. Alex Barnett and DeVon Mosley have been solid, but they need more help from their supporting cast. |
6. | Columbia (2-4) | 6 | The Lions hit rock bottom with the terrible loss to a bad Long Island team, but bounced back on Saturday by dominating another weak opponent in Stony Brook. John Baumann has averaged 21.0 points in Columbia’s wins and just 11.8 points in his team’s four losses. |
Penn (2-4) | 8 | In the wake of the Loyola debacle, Glen Miller went young with three freshmen in the starting lineup. The youngsters got off to a very rough start with the Howard loss, but have bounced back to win two of three since, with several newcomers showing real potential. | |
8. | Princeton (2-3) | 4 | After the confidence-building home wins, the Tigers had a very rough week in Hawai’i. First came the immediate dismantling at the hands of Duke, then a poor second half against Arizona State, before a tough loss to Division II Chaminade sent Princeton home winless. |
