Keys to the Game
Key sequence Providence was clinging to a slim 30-27 lead with under three minute to play in the first half, but the Friars would score 14 of the next 16 points to open up a 15-point lead. Layups on consecutive possessions by Brian McKenzie and Marshon Brooks pushed the margin to seven, and while an Adam Demuyakor jumper brought Harvard back to within five, Jeff Xavier’s jumper and a three-pointer by McKenzie on the next two Providence possessions made it a double-digit game at halftime. Tommy Amaker had been assessed a technical foul after the first-half buzzer, so the Friars began the second half with two free throws, then another McKenzie three made it 44-29 just 44 seconds after intermission. The Crimson never would get their deficit down to single digits the rest of the way.
