Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Columbia scored 16 straight points over a five-minute stretch bridging halftime to turn a tied game into a 16-point Lion lead. John Baumann scored the final seven points of the first half on a layup, two jumpers, and a free throw to send Columbia into the locker room up 37-30, then the All-Ivy senior hit a three-pointer on the Lions’ first possession of the second half for a double-digit lead. Niko Scott’s jumpshot and layup pushed the margin to 14, then Ben Nwachukwu finished things off with a bucket at the 17:17 mark that put Columbia in front 46-30.

Key sign it was over |
The Lions held Stony Brook to just three points over a 12:50 span, during which the lead ballooned to 26 points on a Joe Bova basket with 6:21 remaining. By the time the Seawolves’ Nick Carter finally hit a three-pointer, only 2:53 was left to play, and Columbia led 64-38.

Key performance |
Baumann broke out of a personal three-game slump to post a game-highs 21 points and eight rebounds in 31 turnover-free minutes.
|
Key statistic |
Stony Brook shot a mere 5 of 35 (14.3 percent) from the field in the second half, making Columbia’s 12-for-30 (40.0-percent) second-half shooting look remarkably efficient by comparison.
