Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Dartmouth led 41-39 with less than nine minutes to play, but Anthony Farmer came up with a steal and drove in for the equalizer. Michael Giovacchini couldn’t find the range on a three-point attempt, the Hamady Ndiaye put Rutgers in front with a jumper. Freshman John Marciano had a chance to draw the Big Green even, but missed a pair of free throws. Mike Coburn sandwiched a pair of jumpshots around a Marciano bucket in the paint, and when DeVon Mosley misfired from beyond the arc, two Byron Joynes free throws capped of a 10-2 run that made it 49-43 Scarlet Knights.

Key sign it was over |
Alex Barnett drew the Big Green to within 52-50 on a jumper with 1:09 showing on the clock. However, with the shot clock running down, Farmer found Joynes for a dunk that made it a two-possession game. Giovacchini couldn’t connect on a three, and though Coburn left the door open slightly with a 1-for-2 performance at the line, Brandon Ware’s missed three-pointer with under 10 seconds left sealed the Big Green’s fate.
