Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
After trailing by as many as 15 in the first half, Harvard was down just 66-65 after Jeremy Lin’s layup at the 4:21 mark. However, Alex Vander Baan responded with a bucket from point-blank range, and after the two teams traded long-range misses, Lin missed the front end of a one-and-one. Colin Cunningham put back Tim Clifford’s miss to make it a two-possession game, and after an Adam May steal, Clifford’s layup made it 72-65. Harvard got two shots on its next possession, but couldn’t knock down either, and May got inside for a layup and foul. He missed the free throw, but Clifford controlled the offensive board, and Doherty eventually converted a pair of free throws to cap off a string of 10 unanswered points that blew open the game at 76-65 with under a minute left.

Key sign it was over |
Lin was fouled shooting a very long three-pointer, and his two of three at the line to make it a nine-point contest. The Crimson had a chance to cut into its deficit after a Cunningham turnover, but Drew Housman gave it right back. Doherty drove in for a layup and foul to restore the margin to 11 with just 38 seconds to play.

Key performance |
Clifford stayed out of foul trouble and had a big night, scoring a game-best 22 points on 10-for-16 shooting.
