Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Columbia stumbled out of the gate, missing its first four shots and failing to score on its first six possessions of the game. Meanwhile, Albany had no such problems, scoring on six of its first seven possessions and recording the first 13 points of the game. John Baumann eventually got the Lions on the scoreboard with a dunk at the 15:23 mark, but they never recovered, trailing by double digits the rest of the way.

Key sign it was over |
An uncompetitive game turned into a blowout when the Great Danes — leading 49-28 already — pieced together string of eight unanswered points to extend their lead to 29 with 11:38 remaining.

Key performance |
Albany guard Brian Lillis didn’t have a good shooting night (2 of 8), but a 6-for-7 performance at the line helped get him into double digits with 10 points. Lillis also added five assists and swiped four steals, to go with three rebounds in 24 minutes.

Key statistic |
Normally an excellent three-point shooting team, Columbia was ice-cold from the outside on the evening, hitting just 2 of 21 attempts for 9.5 percent. Baumann missed all five shots from beyond the arc, Niko Scott was 0-for-3.
