Keys to the Game
Key sequence With Casey Hughes sidelined and Dartmouth holding a 49-41 lead with under 11 minutes left, Yale went on a 12-4 run, capped off by a Ross Morin three-point play that knotted the game at 53 at the 5:48 mark. The two teams traded free throws, and Travis Pinick answered two more Big Green free throws with a jumper. Leon Pattman put Dartmouth back on top with a bucket, but Caleb Holmes gave the Bulldogs their first lead since the opening minutes on a three-pointer wwith 2:21 remaining. Two DeVon Mosley lifted the visitors back in front, 61-60, and after fruitless possessions for each team, Eric Flato converted a three-point play to give Yale a 63-61 advantage with just 61 ticks on the clock.
Key sign it was over Dartmouth trailed by two with under a minute left, when Nick Holmes took the ball from Pattman. Morin was fouled and hit both free throws to give Yale a two-possession lead with 35 seconds left. Pattman and Alex Barnett each got looks from beyond the arc, but neither would fall, and Morin grabbed the rebound of the second one. Pattman drilled a three at the other end, and Flato was sent to the line with just two seconds showing on the clock. The Big Green got the two misses it needed, but Flato grabbed his own rebound and sank a superfluous layup at the buzzer for a 69-64 final margin.
Key performance Flato topped the 20-point mark for the fifth time in the last eight games with a 21-point effort. The junior point guard shot 7 of 13 from the field and 4 of 7 from deep, adding three assists and four steals while playing all 40 minutes.
