Keenan Jeppesen leaves Brown program

The Brown radio broadcast confirmed tonight that Keenan Jeppesen has quit the Brown team. According to a source close to the program, Jeppesen plans to leave school and possibly return to his native Canada. At the time of his departure from the program, the junior was the top scorer at Brown, averaging 10.4 points per game. However, he had struggled offensively this year, shooting just 30.3 percent.

Jeppesen garnered Second Team All-Ivy honors last season after a breakout performance in Ivy play. He attempted to follow former Brown coach Glen Miller to Penn, but Penn’s admissions department very publicly declined to consider his transfer application. Jeppesen also discussed a potential transfer with Cornell, but ultimately ended up returning to Brown to play for new coach Craig Robinson.

Slant: The Ewing Theory aside, losing your most talented player is never a positive, and certainly Brown isn’t going to be better off without a player of Jeppesen’s abilities. It will be interesting, however, to see what the offense looks like with him gone and with Chris Skrelja and Damon Huffman back. Jeppensen’s slashing game wasn’t a great fit with Robinson’s offensive scheme, so getting a couple of shooters out on the floor might not be the worst thing for Brown offensively.

Still, it would have been interesting to see if Robinson could have found a way to use Jeppesen’s offensive skills effectively, like John Thompson III did so well with Will Venable at Princeton. In any case, the program definitely will miss his size, athleticism, ability to get to the basket, and his defense.
