Keys to the Game
Key sequence In the first 12:40 of the game, Penn ran out to a 36-12 lead. The Quakers shot 13 for 19 from the field (68.4 percent) and 5 for 7 (71.4 percent) from three-point range in that span. It wouldn’t quite be accurate to say Penn never looked back from there, but the Quakers’ lead never dropped below 10 points.
Key sign it was over After St. Francis cut the deficit to 10 points with 3:32 gone in the second half, Penn went on a 14-0 run in the next 3:56, capping it off with a conventional three-point play by Steve Danley. From there, the Quakers would maintain a lead of 20-plus the rest of the way.
Key performance It was another big night for Penn forward Mark Zoller. The senior had 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting, seven defensive rebounds, three assists, and three steals — while playing on a gimpy ankle.
Key statistic Penn’s 54.0-percent field goal shooting. The Quakers hit 56.0 percent of their shots in the first half and 52.0 percent in the second half.
Notes

– Penn shot very well from the outside, hitting 11 of 20 (55.0 percent) from beyond the arc. All five Quaker starters hit a three-pointer, and three reservers connected from deep as well.

– Penn registered assists on 22 of its 27 field goals.

– Glen Miller played all 13 of his healthy players. Mike Kach is still recovering from an ankle injury, while Cameron Lewis dressed but did not see action.

– Adam Franklin scored seven points in his short time on the floor –- four made free throws and one three-pointer. Kevin Egee’s line also was notable. The sophomore guard hit a three-pointer and recorded one assist, two steals, and four personal fouls — in just three minutes of playing time.

– Both teams recorded the same number of points in the paint (30) and second-chance points (10). Penn held a commanding 30-18 advantage in points off turnovers, due in part to St. Francis’s 22 turnovers compared to Penn’s 17. The Quakers also outscored the Terriers on the fast break, 14-6.

– Penn’s next game will be its home opener against Florida Gulf Coast University on Saturday, November 18, 7:00 pm ET.
