Key sequence Yale wrapped a 17-3 run around halftime, blowing open a game that had been respectably close prior to that point. Ahead 28-18 with a little over a minute left in the first half, the Bulldogs scored on nine of their next 12 possessions to claim a 45-21 advantage early in the second half.
Key sign it was over A 20-3 Yale spurt just after the midway point of the second half turned the game into a laugher, as a 62-40 game became an 82-43 contest.
Key performance Nick Holmes had a great all-around game with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists, and no turnovers in 21 minutes. Had the game been more competitive, Holmes might have flirted with a triple-double.
Key statistic Yale’s 51.4-27.8 edge in field goal percentage. The Bulldogs held the Gators to an anemic 5-of-26 (19.2 percent) shooting performance in the first half. After halftime, Yale scorched the nets with 61.5-percent shooting.
Notes

– The four Yale freshmen made their college debuts, and all four scored their first collegiate points. Jordan Gibson was particularly effective, scoring seven points and dishing out three assists in five minutes.

– Yale’s Eric Flato led all scorers with 15 points.

– Senior Casey Hughes did not play.

– The Bulldogs posted a 24-13 assist turnover differential, while Allegheny fared significantly worse at 7-21.

– Matt Kyle started at center for the Bulldogs. He finished with eight points, four rebounds, one block, and a technical foul.

– Yale faces its first Division I opponent on Sunday, November 19, when the Bulldogs visit Ohio for a 3:00 pm ET tipoff.
