Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Dartmouth ended the half on a 15-6 run to forge a 41-31 lead at the half. The Big Green went 6-for-7 from the field over that final 4:51 to stretch a one-point lead to double figures at intermission. Although Columbia would make a charge in the second half, the Lions could never take the lead. |
Key sign it was over |
With Dartmouth leading 65-62 and 14 seconds remaining, Leon Pattman gently dropped in two free throws to stretch the lead to five points. Pattman made two more shots from the line with three seconds remaining just to make sure nothing crazy happened at the end. |
Key performance |
Pattman’s shooting line is one of the best in the Ivy League this year: 27 points in 26 minutes on 8 of 9 from the field, 3 of 4 from outside the arc and 8 of 9 from the line. He wowed the crowd with a dipsy-doo drive, drained three free throws early when he was fouled shooting outside the arc, knocked down a hurried three-pointer to beat the shot clock and swished a jumper he threw up on the way down while demonstrating his complete arsenal of weapons. |
Key statistic |
Dartmouth’s 24-of-46 shooting. The Big Green knocked down 52.2 percent of its shots, compared to 39.2 percent for the Lions. Dartmouth put up 41 first-half points on the strength of 57.7-percent shooting in the first 20 minutes. |

The Lions shot just 39.2 percent on the night, their second sub-40 percent performance in a row and, not coincidentally, their second loss in a row. |
|
– |
Columbia’s Justin Armstrong and Ben Nwachukwu were a combined 4-for-14 for 10 points, less than half their combined 21.2 scoring average. |

Two of the biggest cheers of the night came with the final scores from women’s basketball: Princeton 72, Brown 55 and then Dartmouth 70, Columbia 65 in overtime. The results move the Big Green back into a three-way tie for the Ivy League lead with games remaining tonight at Cornell and Tuesday home against Harvard. |
