Penn doesn’t get the memo; Princeton’s last chance

On a day when Cornell, Harvard, and Yale all enjoyed stellar offensive games, Penn failed to go along with the trend, turning in its second-worst offensive performance of the season in a disheartening loss to Saint Joseph’s. Tonight Princeton looks to avoid breaking another ignominious record in its — and the Ivy League’s — final non-league game of the regular season.

Gamecenter: Cornell 81, Columbia 59

Key sequence: With Columbia trailing by five early in the second half, Brett Loscalzo committed an offensive foul give the ball back to Cornell. Cornell’s Adam Gore nailed a three-pointer to stretch the margin to eight, then Loscalzo turned the ball over again on the Lions’ subsequent possession. At the other end of the floor, Loscalzo fouled Gore shooting a three-pointer, and the Rookie of the Year frontrunner hit all three free throws to give the Big Red a double-digit lead. Columbia would get no closer than 10 the rest of the way.

Gamecenter: Saint Joseph’s 47, Penn 44

Key sequence: After 6-8 forward Rob Ferguson hit his third three-pointer of the second half to tie the game at 44 with 1:32 to play, Mark Zoller rebounded his own miss jumper, but was called for a traveling violation after a foul was not called on Saint Joe’s. The Hawks’ Abdulai Jalloh then hit the game-winning jumper — his only field goal of the game — over David Whitehurst with 25 seconds left.
