Georgia forward Demuyakor commits to Harvard

The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that Adam Demuyakor of Buford, GA, has announced his intention to attend Harvard next year. The 6-5 forward averaged 12.2 points and 8.5 rebounds as a junior last season at North Gwinnett High School, earning all-county honors. At a chiseled 215 points, Demuyakor is a physical specimen who projects to play the power forward position in college.

Gamecenter: Central Michigan 71, Brown 58

Key sequence: After Keenan Jeppesen’s conventional three-point play narrowed the Central Michigan advantage to 33-26 with 17:48 left in the contest, Brown gave up similar three-point play at the other end. The Bears had a number of opportunities to cut into their deficit, but failed to score on their next six possessions. When the Chippewas’ Sefton Barrett converted a layup at the 14:35 mark, Brown found itself down 13.

Huffman injured in Brown’s season opener

Junior Damon Huffman sustained a left knee injury in the first half of Brown’s 45-34 loss at Michigan State in the the 2KSports Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic. With friends and family in the stands, the Petoskey, MI, native’s knee gave out at the 1:17 mark of the first half while playing defense. He was helped off the court and returned to the sidelines in the second half in street clothes. Teammate Scott Friske told the Brown Daily Herald that Huffman’s injury “doesn’t look good,” but that an MRI would determine the damage.

Gamecenter: Brown 34, Michigan State 45

Key sequence: Brown had two chances in the final five minutes to cut into a five-point Michigan State lead. However, Sam Mahanga was whistled for a traveling violation in the lane on the first possession, and Mark McAndrew missed the front end of a one-and-one the second time. Travis Walton stuck a jumper at the other end to restore the Spartan lead to seven with 3:28 remaining, and the Bears would get no closer.

High-profile prospect Owens chooses Stanford

Phillips Exeter power forward Josh Owens of Austell, GA, will sign a national letter of intent to play at Stanford, according to a source close to the situation. Owens is a Top 100 prospect nationally who had narrowed his choices to Penn, Stanford, and Vanderbilt, before opting to join the Cardinal. The ultra-athletic 6-8 forward had taken his final official visit to Penn the final weekend of October.
