Keys to the Game
Key sequence Dragutin Kravic found John Baumann for a layup to bring Columbia to within four midway through the second half. Paul Bode answered with a jumper for the Big Green, and the Lions’ Justin Armstrong gave it back to Dartmouth. Mike Lang missed on a three-pointer, but Johnathan Ball grabbed the offensive rebound. Lang dished to Chuck Flynn inside for a layup and foul on Brett Loscalzo. Flynn converted the free throw, then Lang stole the ball from Loscalzo at the other end. Flynn missed a jumper, but Bode got the offensive board and was fouled by Ben Nwachukwu. Bode hit one of two at the line and suddenly Dartmouth had a double digit lead.
Key sign it was over Flynn stole the ball from Mack Montgomery and Michael Giovacchini hit two free throws to put Dartmouth up 10 with just 62 seconds left.
Key performance Mike Lang. The Dartmouth senior tied for the game’s high-scoring honors with 16 points on 3-for-7 shooting from the arc. He also added seven assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
Key statistic Dartmouth’s 20-11 advantage in points off turnovers. Columbia lost the turnover battle 19-14 and the Big Green made the Lions pay.
Notes
The win was Dartmouth’s first Ivy win of the season and ends another five-game road trip. After playing just four of its first 19 games at home, the Big Green plays six of its final eight at Leede Arena.
The Lions attempted just 11 three-pointers, tying their second-lowest total of the season.
Dartmouth’s starting guards outscored their Columbia counterparts 32 to 10 and had 14 assists to just 3 for the Lions’ starting backcourt.
Loscalzo broke out of his shooting slump with a 2-for-4 night from three-point range en route to 10 points.
Columbia’s Kashif Sweet had a rough game, committing four turnovers in just seven minutes of action.
