Much like this point last season, it’s looking like there won’t be much drama as far as an Ivy title chase. The two top threats to Penn both saw the title chances suffer major damage this weekend, leaving a Princeton squad ranked in the bottom 50 nationally alone in second place. As you might expect, this led to some movement this week in the Power Rankings.

1. | Penn (12-6, 4-0 Ivy) | 1 | The weekend brought two more blowout wins for the Quakers, who are winning by margins unseen in the league since the great 1997-98 Princeton team. The only cause for concern is the 16-1 lead Penn spotted Yale before showing up on Saturday. |
2. | Cornell (9-11, 4-2 Ivy) | 4 | Saturday’s last-second win over Harvard propels the Big Red into the second spot in this week’s rankings. With the game at Penn already out of the way, the Big Red might be the only Ivy team with remotely realistic hopes of making Penn sweat. |
3. | Harvard (12-7, 4-2 Ivy) | 3 | The disappointing loss at Cornell probably ensures that Harvard won’t win its first Ivy title this year. The Crimson has struggled away from home in the league, losing at Yale and Cornell and having a tougher time than Dartmouth did at Columbia. |
4. | Princeton (5-12, 3-1 Ivy) | 7 | The emphatic weekend put a temporary happy face on a miserable season. Now the Tigers find themselves alone in second place at 3-1 and can actually enter the Ivy title hunt with another sweep this weekend in northern New England. |
5. | Yale (11-10, 3-3 Ivy) | 2 | This happens year after year: Yale fans see their team stumble early against Brown, crawl out of that hole to get in position to contend, then suffer a letdown in a game it should win. At .500 in the league, Yale’s season is now basically over. |
6. | Brown (6-13, 2-4 Ivy) | 6 | The Bears’ offense was struggling to score when Luke Ruscoe was healthy. But without its senior leader on the court, Brown can be downright painful to watch at times offensively, as Penn and Princeton fans found out this weekend. |
7. | Dartmouth (3-16, 1-5 Ivy) | 8 | The Big Green finally got off the Ivy schneid with the win at Columbia, which was even more impressive considering Leon Pattman was injured and didn’t play. Now Dartmouth can look forward to lots of home games the rest of the way. |
8. | Columbia (8-11, 1-5 Ivy) | 5 | Lions fans are experiencing their own deja vu right about now, with the team facing another collapse in Ivy play. The really bad news is that on Saturday Columbia lost what was possibly its most winnable game in the league this season. |
