I don’t get too many chances to be at home on a Friday night of an Ivy weekend, so I’m going to try something new tonight: running a live blog of the evening’s action in the Mid-Atlantic region. Through the magic of Internet audio/video, gametrackers, and chat rooms, I’ll be keeping tabs on all four games.
9:33 pm: The dog wants to go for his walk, so that’s it for tonight. Thanks for reading along. Good night, everybody.
9:30 pm: The evening is over with the final buzzer at Newman. Cornell wins 63-47.
9:25 pm: Trailing by 12 with 3:10 left, Dartmouth’s Jason Meyer misses a three. Cornell grabs the rebound, and that probably ends the game. At the other end, Graham Dow nails a three-pointer late in the shot clock and the final two minutes are a formality.
9:20 pm: Tonight’s hero for Princeton: Scott Greenman, who scored a career-high 27 points.
9:17 pm: Delaying the inevitable, Yale keeps fouling. Princeton had 10 free throw attempst in the first 38 minutes of this game and is going to match that total in the final couple of minutes. 66-49 is the final at Jadwin. In central New York, Cornell still has its perpetual comfortable lead on Dartmouth, 55-41 with 5:58 left.
9:13 pm: Four straight Tiger free throws mean Yale is toast, down 13 with 96 seconds left. Almost as big a story as Yale’s demise is the fact Princeton is about to be 2-1 in the league, which would equal its win total from non-league play.
9:10 pm: Sam Kaplan misses yet another free throw, dropping the Bulldogs to 6-16 from the line on the evening. He gets his second one, but misses a layup after forcing a steal. Princeton ball, up 56-47 with 2:17 left. It’s 49-34 Cornell with 10:47 left.
9:07 pm: Conway turns it over on a second consecutive possession, and Yale uses the free throw line to get back within eight, but Edwin Buffmire gets a layup to put the Tigers back up by double digits with 2:55 left in Yale’s season.
9:05 pm: Dartmouth refusing to go away, down 45-34 with under 12:00 left at Cornell. They’re at the under-4:00 media timeout at Jadwin, with Yale staring at a 10-point deficit.
9:02 pm: Koncz with a huge three-pointer to restore the Tigers’ lead to seven points with 6:13 left. Nick Holmes fails to answer at the other end and Greenman hits a three to put Princeton up 54-44 with under 5:00 left. The Yale players have to be feeling some serious deja vu right about now, and suddenly tomorrow night’s game in Philly is in danger of losing most of its meaning.
8:58 pm: All over at Levien, with Harvard winning 69-59. Housman with a huge game for the Crimson with 20 points on 10-11 free throw shooting. Yale gets a pair of buckets to close within 48-44 with 6:44 left in Princeton. And it’s 43-28 at Newman with Cornell still holding a comfortable lead.
8:56 pm: Owings hits a three-pointer to give Princeton eight points in a 34-second span. For a team that’s had trouble scoring eight points in a 340-second span this season, that’s just huge. 48-40 Tigers with 8:31 left.
8:55 pm: Huge play at Jadwin. With the game tied, Strittmatter hits another three-pointer and Yale’s Matt Kyle is called for an off-ball foul that puts Owings on the line for a one-and-one. Owings hits both free throws for a five-point possession and a five-point lead.
8:52 pm: Cusworth hits a jumper and Matt Stehle adds two free throws to give the Crimson a late double-digit lead. Two Housman free throws make it 69-57 with 1:08 left, which should give Harvard the win. It’s all over in Philly, with Penn winning 68-51. Bad news for Princeton, as Greenman picks up his fourth foul with 9:37 left at Jadwin and the game tied 40-40.
8:50 pm: After a Matsui turnover, Goffredo gives it right back. Out of a 30-second timeout, Kravic blows a layup, but Baumann is hacked by Mike Beal on the rebound and hits both free throws to make it 63-57 Harvard with 1:36 left. Down at Princeton, Mike Strittmatter ties the game at 40 with a three-pointer. The second half is underway in Ithaca.
8:47 pm: Kyle Koncz trims the Yale lead to one with a pair of free throws, but Caleb Holmes answers with a jumper to restore the margin to three at 38-35. Housman hits two free throws to extend Harvard’s lead to 53-55 at the 2:24 mark. Fran Dunphy starting to work in his bench late against Brown.
8:45 pm: Columbia needs points, as Brett Loscalzo misses a jumper and Harvard controls the rebound, up six with under 3:00 left.
8:42 pm: Housman with a pair of free throws to make it 61-55 Harvard with 3:23 left. MacDonald keeping Penn’s deep bench from getting minutes with a couple of shots from the outside, 64-41 Penn with 4:35 left. Yale clinging to a 36-33 lead at Jadwin at the 12:24 mark.
8:38 pm: Ben Nwachukwu gets a much-needed bucket inside for Columbia to cut the deficit to four with under 5:00 left. Dom Martin gets loose inside for a layup to give the Bulldogs their first lead of the second half, 33-31. It’s 60-31 Penn at The Palestra.
8:35 pm: Nick Holmes hits a three-pointer to tie the game 31-31. Halftime in Ithaca with Cornell leading 38-23 thanks to 14 first-half points by Gore. Housman picks Kravic’s pocket and hits a jumper to extend Harvard’s lead to 58-53.
8:31 pm: Second half begins in Princeton, with Eric Flato hitting a three-pointer and Casey Hughes answering a Justin Conway layup with a layup of his own to make it 29-28 Princeton. In Philadelphia, Jaaber goes to the bench with 16 points and Penn leading 56-29. Harvard still clinging to a narrow lead at Levien and Dartmouth still down double digits late in the first half at Newman.
8:28 pm: The WXPN sideline guy slaughters Alai Nuualiitia’s last name during a segment with Nuualiitia and Earl Hunt. Harvard is on a 7-0 run, capped off by a Zach Martin three-pointer that gives the Crimson a 54-49 lead. It’s 32-18 Cornell in Ithaca.
8:25 pm: Brian Grandieri hits a three to put Penn up 53-27, prompting Glen Miller to immediately call a timeout. Gore with a jumper puts Cornell up 32-15 on Dartmouth. Meanwhile, a Cusworth layup puts Harvard on top 51-49 with under 10:00 left in NYC.
8:20 pm: Scott Friske gets an and-one to stem the Penn tide. 47-27 Penn with 13:03 left in the game. It’s 25-13 Cornell with 6:39 left, and Justin Armstrong hits a rare three-pointer to put Columbia back on top, 49-47 with 11:14 left.
8:17 pm: Lenny Collins drills a three-pointer to make it 23-11 Cornell. Brown had made a mini-run to make it 41-24 at The Palestra. Still tight at Levien, 42-40 in Columbia’s favor.
8:14 pm: Greenman finds Owings for a three-pointer with five seconds left in the half to make it 27-21 Princeton at halftime. Cornell and Dartmouth finally get the lids off the baskets at Newman. 17-7 Big Red with 10:41 left before halftime. Eric Osmundson dunks on a breakaway at The Palestra, where things are starting to get out of hand. Columbia leads 41-40 in Manhattan.
8:11 pm: Greenman continues a big night with a three-pointer to put Princeton back on top, 24-21 late in the first. Goffredo hits his second three of the night to put Harvard up 40-39. Still 15-5 Cornell in Ithaca.
8:07 pm: After two Jim Goffredo free throws give Harvard the lead seconds into the second half, Matsui nails another three-pointer. Dom Martin dunks in his former gym to make it a two-point game. Mark Zoller hits his first three of the game to make it 39-17 Penn.
8:05 pm: Gore with another three-pointer as the Big Red leads 15-5 early on. Princeton up 21-17 on Yale after a Greenman jumper. Second half underway in Philly, and birthday boy Ibby Jaaber gets things going with a long three-pointer.
8:01 pm: Adam Gore and Michael Giovacchini trade three-pointers to get the scoring started at Newman. Yale with its seventh turnover of the game already, as Princeton leads 19-17.
7:58 pm: Underway early in Ithaca, with Cornell winning the tip. Yale and Princeton tied 17-17 with 5:54 left.
7:52 pm: Dan McQuade in an email from The Palestra: “There’s a halftime contest going on right now, the ‘hit as many FTs as you can in 30 seconds’ — both contestants airballed their first five free throws.” Princeton leads 15-14 in a see-saw affair across the Delaware in NJ.
7:47 pm: Halftime strikes nearly simultaneously in New York and Philly. Ben Nwachukwu fouls Cusworth with no time left in the clock, and Cusworth hits one of two to make it 34-33 Columbia at the half. Penn leads 33-15 at the first-half buzzer. Meanwhile, Princeton has taken EIGHT two-point field goals compared to just THREE three-pointers, but hasn’t scored in still trails Yale 9-8.
7:45 pm: 11-1 Harvard run gives the Crimson a 32-29 lead. Yale with six unanswered to take a 9-8 lead at Jadwin. And Penn gets a string of offensive rebounds to make it 30-15.
7:41 pm: Three-point mania. Greenman drills another three-pointer to put Princeton up 8-3. A Drew Housman three makes it 29-27 Columbia with 3:02 left in the first half. Friedrich Ebede grabs an offensive rebound and puts it back for an old-fashioned three-point play to put Penn up 28-14 Quakers.
7:35 pm: Scott Greenman kicks off the scoring in Princeton with a three-pointer, but Eric Flato answers with a three of his own to tie it up. 7:34 pm: Yale and Princeton have tipped off at Jadwin. The Danley Second Foul Watch is on at The Palestra, where Penn leads 22-12.
7:28 pm – Penn has cooled off offensively again, and is sitting back against Brown’s zone and taking poor shots near the end of the shot clock. 15-9 Penn at the under-8:00 media timeout . With 7:27 left in Morningside Heights, Harvard has closed to within 23-21.
7:22 pm: Keenan Jeppesen gets untracked to end Penn’s 11-0 run. Eight three-point attempts already for Penn, who leads 11-4 at the second media timeout. In NYC Columbia extended its lead to double digits on a Baumann layup, but Harvard gets three-point plays on three straight possesions to make it 20-17.
7:17 pm – Under-12:00 media timeout in New York with the score 14-6 Lions. Penn has come alive from the outside and now leads 11-2.

7:12 pm – 10-6 Columbia at the first media timeout. David Whitehurst hit a three-pointer to give Penn a 6-2 lead. Whitehurst hitting his shots is bad news for Brown.
