Columbia gets pledge from G Egee

Joe Jones has picked up a commitment from combo guard Steve Egee of Ridley High School in Pennsylvania, the Delaware County Times reports. He picked the Lions over interest from Siena, Hartford, and Albany. At 6-3, 185 pounds, Egee is the younger brother of Penn junior Kevin Egee, with a scouting report similar to his brother: a shooter with some point guard skills. He joins three other high schools and La Salle transfer Brian Grimes in announcing commitments to Columbia so far, though it’s expected the 2008 class will continue to grow.

Slant: The Lions are graduating their starting backcourt and backup point guard, and Patrick Foley has injury concerns surrounding him, so Jones desperately needs to bring in a point guard in this recruiting class. Though Egee can play the point, he probably isn’t that player, so the search should go on. However, Egee could be in the mix for minutes next season on the wing, and is his skills should make him a serious contender for the Columbia rotation in subsequent seasons as well.
