Keys to the Game
Key sequence After Evan Harris hit a field goal in the paint and a free throw to close Harvard to within 59-52 with 5:33 remaining, Dartmouth got a layup from Robby Pride. Two empty Crimson possessions were followed by an Alex Barnett jumper for Dartmouth. While Harris and Kyle Fitzgerald were going 0-for-2 from the line Barnett was hitting another field goal to build the Big Green’s lead to a comfortable 65-52 with less than three minutes remaining.
Key sign it was over After Harvard pulled within 65-55 with 1:35 remaining, Dartmouth went 6-for-6 from the line to stretch its lead to an insurmountable 71-56 with 1:08 remaining.
Key performance Barnett had his usual productive game with 21 points, but it was DeVon Mosley who gave the Dartmouth outside attack a much-needed boost by knocking down 3-of-3 shots from beyond the arc in the first half and finishing with 17 points. He also grabbed six rebounds on the night.
Key statistic After being pounded on the defensive boards in the first meeting between the teams, Dartmouth held Harvard to just eight offensive rebounds of a possible 40 (20.0 percent) and outscored the Crimson 7-6 on second-chance opportunities in the rematch.
Notes

– Harvard forward Pat Magnarelli played just one minute before falling to the floor with a knee injury behind his basket and being helped off the floor. He scored 17 points in just 20 minutes in the first meeting between the teams. After being taken to the locker room, he spent the rest of the game on a training table beyond the end of the Harvard bench with his knee being iced.

– Harvard shot a season-low 34.6 percent from the field. The Crimson is just the second team to shoot under 40 percent against Dartmouth this year. The only other one was Division III Daniel Webster (31.9 percent).

– Barnett had four assists but would have had double that — or more — if the Big Green had been able to hit its shots when the forward drove to the hoop and dumped the ball off to teammates for easy opportunities.

– Harvard had just five assists to 17 turnovers.

– Dartmouth was 12-for-15 from the line while Harvard was 17-for-26. Fitzgerald, a 77.8 percent free throw shooter coming in, was just 1-for-6 on the night.

– The Big Green was 5-for-10 from outside the arc while Harvard was 3-for-16.

– Jeremy Lin scored 14 of his 16 points for Harvard in the second half while Evan Harris scored 10 of his 16 from the foul line.

– Dartmouth snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 4-1 at home.

– Dartmouth’s 36-26 lead at the half was the result of an 18-8 advantage in scoring in the paint. That work in close helped the Big Green shoot 57.1 percent in the first 20 minutes.

– Dartmouth coach Terry Dunn started his 13th different lineup in 14 games.
