Keys to the Game
Key sequence The game was tied at nine all midway through the first half, but a ten-minute scoreless spell by Princeton would see the game get away from the Tigers. During this stretch, the visitors missed all 10 field goal attempts and both free throws, while committing seven turnovers. Penn State wasn’t exactly lighting the world on fire offensively during this period, but the Nittany Lions did manage to score 14 unanswered points. Geary Claxton had six of those points, and his dunk and layup got the Penn State run started and and eventually capped off the run with a putback of his own miss with just over a minute before halftime, to put his team in front 23-9. The Tigers didn’t reach double digits until Nick Lake’s layup with 36 seconds to play in the first half.
Key sign it was over A nearly impossible task became impossible when Penn State run off 10 unanswered points late in the game to remove all doubt as to the outcome. Princeton trailed 49-31 after a Zach Finley layup, but two D.J. Jackson free throws and a Claxton dunk got the Nittany Lions started. When Jeff Brooks came up with steal and went in for a layup, it was 59-31 in the home team’s favor with 3:41 remaining.
Key performance Claxton had an absolutely huge game for Penn State scoring 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting, while adding 10 rebounds — six offensive — and five assists in 34 minutes.
Key statistic The Tigers suffered through a very poor first half for the second-straight game, putting up just 11 points. The main culprits were eight turnovers and 1-for-14 combined shooting from three-point range in the first 20 minutes.

– The Tigers committed 17 turnovers as a team, compared to just nine for the Nittany Lions, who held a huge 25-8 edge in points off turnovers and a 10-2 advantage in fastbreak points.

– Senior co-captains Kyle Koncz and Noah Savage had very rough shooting nights, combining to go just 1 of 17 from the floor and 1 of 13 from three.

– The Tigers will look to snap their losing streak when Manhattan visits Jadwin Gym on Sunday, December 16 in the second half of a doubleheader with the women’s team, with tipoff expected to take place at 5:00 pm ET.
