Keys to the Game
Key sequence Yale trailed 27-19 late in the first half, and had three chances to cut into its deficit, but turned it over on three straight possessions. Eventually, Corey Lowe’s layup made it a double-digit game and 90 seconds later, Lowe struck from three-point range. An Eric Flato offensive foul became the Bulldogs’ fifth turnover in six possessions, and at the other end, John Holland connected from outside the arc to finish off a quick 8-0 run for BU that made it 35-19 in the Terrier’s favor. Yale would get no closer than eight points again.
Key sign it was over Caleb Holmes’s three-pointer made it a nine-point game with 5:22 to play, but Lowe responded with a jumper. Following a Yale turnvoer, Carlos Strong drew a foul and hit both free throws, then Holland came up with a steal and Lowe dunked to make it 71-56 with 4:11 remaining. The Bulldogs eventually got back within 12, will under two minutes left, but three-pointers by Nick Holmes and Alex Zampier wouldn’t fall, and by the time Yale cut its deficit to single digits, only 22 seconds remained.
Key performance Lowe put on a shooting display for BU with a career-high 35 points on 13-for-20 shooting — including 7 of 13 from three-point territory. The Terrier guard did commit six turnovers, but also pulled down three boards and recorded two assists in 35 minutes.
Key statistic Yale shot the ball well, but hurt itself with 21 turnovers, which became 24 BU points. The Terriers committed 16 miscues, leading to 19 Bulldog points.
Notes

– Flato was the only double-figure scorer for Yale with 15, but had a career-worst seven turnovers.

– Strong chipped in with 16 points for BU.

– Both teams shot very well, with the Terriers at 53.2 percent overall and 10 of 22 (45.5 percent) from three, and the Bulldogs at 51.1 percent from the floor and 8 of 20 (40.0 percent) from the outside.

– BU recorded just 10 assists on its 25 field goals.

– Yale has 17-day layoff before resuming play on Saturday, December 29, at Kansas, in an 8:00 pm ET game that will be televised on ESPN Full Court.
