Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Yale struck quickly to turn a nip-and-tuck affair into a double digit game with eight quick points in just over a minute near the midway point of the second half. It was 51-49 in the Bulldogs’ favor until Alex Zampier drilled a three-pointer. Zampier then victimized Mike Trimboli with a theft and fed Travis Pinick for a dunk. Following another Trimboli turnover, Zampier struck again from three-point range to make it 59-49 with 12:52 to play. Trimboli turned it over on a third straight possession, but Yale couldn’t capitalize when Matt Kyle’s layup wouldn’t drop, but Eric Flato came up with yet another steal and Zampier got one of two at the line to give the Bulldogs an 11-point advantage.

Key sign it was over |
Vermont drew within nine on a Nick Vier three-pointer with 2:15 to play, and had a chance to get closer, but Pinick blocked Chad Powlovich’s layup attempt, and the Catamounts’ bench earned a technical foul. Caleb Holmes hit just one of two at the line, and Vier came up with the steal. Vermont had two shots to cut into its deficit, but couldn’t knock down either one. The Catamounts got yet another chance when Porter Braswell committed an offensive foul, but Trimboli’s three-pointer was off the mark and Ross Morin rebounded with under a minute left and his team up 10. Morin was fouled and would begin a parade to the free throw line by the Bulldogs down the stretch, where they went 7-for-8 to earn the win.
