Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Brown came out and jumped all over New Hampshire, opening the game with a 20-2 run. Mark McAndrew drilled a three-pointer 19 seconds in to start the onslaught, then scored inside two possessions later. The score sat on 5-0 for two minutes, until Mark MacDonald sank a pair of free throws. Eric Gilchrese got the Wildcats on the board with a jumper at the 15:46 mark, but MacDonald answered back immediately with lay-ins on the next two possessions to make it 11-2. McAndrew knocked down another three the next trip down the court, Damon Huffman followed suit, and Scott Friske made it three straight three-pointers to finish off the run that left UNH in an 18-point hole.

Key sign it was over |
The Wildcats cut the margin to 12 at several points in the second half, but each time the Bears had an answer. The final time, Tyrece Gibbs made it 56-44 with a three-pointer with 5:21 to play, but after a timeout, McAndrew responded with a three of his own. McAndrew then came up with a steal and was fouled by Gibbs, who drew a technical foul as well, but McAndrew only could hit two of four at the line. After Alvin Abreu missed twice from close range, Matt Mullery put back Huffman’s miss to cap of a string of seven unanswered points to make it 63-44 with 3:34 to play.

Notes
– MacDonald was the other Brown player in double figures with 10 points in just 16 minutes, as Huffman had an uncharacteristically quiet night with just seven points on 2-for-8 shooting.
– Abreu led UNH with 14 points, while Gibbs and Mike Christensen hit just three of their 13 two-point attempts on the night.
– The Bears had a 22-13 edge in free throw attempts and outscored the Wildcats 15-9 at the line.
– The game was very cleanly played, with just 22 combined turnovers evenly split between the two teams.
– Craig Robinson got good production from two reserves, with Peter Sullivan (nine points in 13 minutes) and Mullery (seven points in 11 minutes) enjoying efficient evenings.
– Brown will play its fifth game in an 11-day span when it takes on city rival Providence at the Dunkin Donuts Center on Sunday, December 9, at 7:30 pm ET.
