Keys to the Game
Key sequence It was a two-point game after Noah Savage’s layup with 3:36 to play in the first half, but Seton Hall would score 17 of the next 20 points to take control of the game. Larry Davis’s jumper put the Pirates up 25-21, then Brian Laing came up with a steal and dunked. Laing then turned Eugene Harvey feeds into layups on the next two possessions, as Seton Hall scored the final eight points of the half to take a 31-21 lead into halftime. Savage scored the first bucket of the second half, but Harvey got inside for layups on consecutive possessions. Zach Finley’s free throw made it an 11-point game, and after more than four minutes elapsed without any scoring, Harvey got two free throws, then the Pirates took advantage of a second chance offensively when Paul Gause drilled a three-pointer to open up a 40-24 advantage at the 13:15 mark.
Key sign it was over A Savage three-pointer gave the Tigers a sliver of hope, cutting their deficit to 61-53 with just under a minute to play. However, Laing was perfect on two attempts from the stripe, and Savage couldn’t replicate his feat from beyond the arc. John Garcia was fouled, and got one of two free throws to make it an 11-point game with just 27 ticks on the clock.
Key performance Harvey scored a game-high 20 points on efficient 7-for-9 shooting from the field. The Seton Hall guard also added three rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 37 minutes.
Key statistic The Pirates enjoyed an 18-6 edge in free throw attempts and outscored the Tigers 13-3 at the line.
Notes

– Savage and Kyle Koncz tied for the team scoring lead with 15 points apiece, while Finley registered the first double-double for a Princeton player since the 2004-05 season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

– Lang had a nice all-around game for Seton Hall with 14 points, nine rebounds, and four assists while playing all 40 minutes. Gause provided a spark off the bench for Bobby Gonzalez with 12 points in just 19 minutes — including a pair of three-pointers.

– The Tigers recorded assists on just 11 of their 23 field goals.

– Princeton struggled with its outside shooting, after halftime, hitting just 4 of 13 three-pointers (30.8 percent) in the second-half. Koncz and Lincoln Gunn combined to go just 2 of 11 from beyond the arc on the night.

– Sydney Johnson didn’t get much of a contribution from his bench, as the Tiger reserves were outscored 20-2 by their Pirate counterparts.

– Mired in a four-game losing streak, Princeton will try to get back on track against local rival Rutgers at the RAC on Saturday, December 1, at 2:00 pm ET.
