Key sequence Brown’s 14-point first-half lead was gone, and the two teams were tied at 64 with under four minutes to play, when freshman Peter Sullivan drew a foul and hit both free throws to put the Bears back on top. Northwestern’s Jason Okrzesik couldn’t finish from in close and grabbed his own miss, but Chris Skrelja came up with a block, and Scott Friske controlled the loose ball for Brown. The two teams traded missed jumpers before Damon Huffman gave the Bears a four-point lead with 1:17 remaining.
Key sign it was over Michael Thompson had a chance to tie the game with 30 seconds left, but missed the second of two free throws and Brown grabbed the rebound. Sullivan was fouled, and he coolly drained both shots to make it a three-point game with 22 ticks left on the clock. Following a Thompson turnover, Huffman was fouled and converted both free throws to give the Bears a five-point advantage with just 10 seconds remaining. When Okrzesik couldn’t get a layup to drop and Skrelja grabbed the rebound, Craig Robinson had beaten his former employer.
Key performance Mark McAndrew was all over the stat sheet for Brown, scoring 18 points on 5-for-7 shooting from three, grabbing eight rebounds, and handing out five assists in 35 minutes.
Key statistic The Bears shot the lights out at Welsh-Ryan Arena, hitting 24 of 43 (55.8 percent) overall and a sizzling 12 of 23 (52.2 percent) from beyond the arc.
Notes

– In his return to the Chicago area, Sullivan led Brown with 19 points in 32 minutes off the bench after Mark MacDonald got in early foul trouble. Friske also made a big scoring contribution with 17 points.

– Sterling Williams had a game-high 20 points for Northwestern.

– The Bears committed 17 turnovers to just nine for the Wildcats, who outscored their guests 25-12 in points off turnovers.

– Brown had an edge at the line with 16 attempts to Northwestern’s 11, and outscored the Wildcats 13-9 from the stripe.

– The Bears next will head to Staten Island to face Wagner on Wednesday, November 28, at 7:00 pm ET.
