Keys to the Game
Key sequence Arizona State opened the second half with an 11-2 run, opening up a double-digit lead in what had been a four-point game at halftime. Ty Abbott got things started for the Sun Devils with a three-pointer to beat the shot clock, then after consecutive steals ab James Harden, the freshman suck a pull-up jumper on the break to make it 36-27. Zach Finley grabbed his own miss and was fouled, hitting both free throws, but Harden countered for Arizona State with a layup. Jumpers by Jerren Shipp and Derek Glasser finished off the run and left Princeton starting at a 13-point deficit.
Key sign it was over A Finley bucket had the Tigers within 11 with seven minutes to play, but Harden got inside for layup, then flew in for an acrobatic dunk on the break. Following a Marcus Schroeder turnover, Glasser struck from long range to make it 58-40 with 4:42 left, and Princeton would not be coming back from that.
Key performance Harden scored a game-high 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. He recorded an assist and three steals in 32 minutes of action.
Key statistic The second-half shooting numbers tell the story, with the Sun Devils on fire at 12 of 20 (60.0 percent) overall and 2 of 4 (50.0 percent) from three. Conversely, the Tigers were just 5 of 19 (26.3 percent) from the floor and a woeful 1 of 12 (8.3 percent) from beyond the arc.
