Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Things started well for Princeton with a Zach Finley layup on the Tigers’ first possession, but Duke responded with 12 unanswered points, with 10 of those coming from freshman Kyle Singler. Matt Sargeant stopped the bleeding with a layup at the 15:35 mark to make it 12-4, but those would be the final points for Princeton over the next five minutes, as the Blue Devils forced turnovers and missed shots, while exploding for a 19-0 run. Trailing 31-4 just before the midway point of the first half, Princeton eventually got untracked offensively, but by then it was much too late.
|
Key sign it was over |
The Tigers were showing some fight, hovering around 25 down when Duke scored seven points in under 90 seconds, capped off by a Taylor King three-pointer that gave the Blue Devils a 73-43 cushion. At that point the final 10 minutes were a mere formality.
|
Key performance |
Singler had a very big night for Duke with 21 points on 9-for-14 shooting, and added 12 boards — including nine on the offensive end — in just 27 minutes on the floor. The freshman scored 13 of those points during the Blue Devils’ back-breaking 31-4 opening run.
|
Key statistic |
Duke completely decimated Princeton on the boards. The Blue Devils grabbed 20 of the 43 rebounds at their offensive end (46.5 percent), while limiting the Tigers to just 3 of 27 (11.1 percent) at their end. The second-chance scoring reflected this lopsided rebounding, with Duke shutting out Princeon 21-0 in that department.
