Tigers hunting big game in Hawai’i

The first two games of the Sydney Johnson Era have gone off without a hitch, as Princeton won both. Now the degree of difficulty gets cranked way up in the form of a date with 10th-ranked Duke in the first round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

Princeton (2-0) vs. Duke (2-0) – 9:00 pm ET (ESPN2)

A national television audience will be watching to see how the Tigers handle the pressure of facing Duke. The Blue Devils haven’t been tested yet this season, blowing by Division I newcomer North Carolina Central by 65 points and smoking New Mexico State 86-61. Princeton is going to have to work hard to get open looks from the arc, as Duke has held opponents to just 28.6 percent from the outside in those games. The Blue Devils also force a lot of turnovers defensively, so the Tigers will need to continue to take good care of the ball. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a trademark Princeton upsets. Will it take all of three games for Johnson to do what John Thompson III and Joe Scott couldn’t do in seven combined seasons?
