Keys to the Game
Key sequence Johnathan Ball’s jumper with six minutes to play in the first half gave Dartmouth a 25-24 advantage. The lead was short-lived, however, as a few seconds later, Kyle Swanston drilled a three-pointer to put James Madison back in front. Abdulai Jalloh and Terrance Carter each sank a pair of free throws while the Big Green turned it over on three of four possessions. DeVon Mosley was perfect on two free throw attempts to make it a four-point game, but Terrance Carter put back a Swanston miss, then following another pair of Dartmouth turnovers, Dazzmond Thornton scored in the lane to put the Dukes up 35-27 with just over a minute to go before halftime.
Key sign it was over Adam Powers’s layup brought Dartmouth within 64-50 with 5:22 remaining, but Jalloh answered with a jumper at the other end. The Big Green turned it over on its next two possessions, so when Jalloh connected from three-point range, Terry Dunn’s team found itself down 19 with just 3:35 to play.
Key performance Carter did it all for James Madison, scoring 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting, grabbing 11 boards, and dishing out five assists in 35 minutes.
Key statistic The Dukes had a big edge at the free throw line, where they were 23 of 28 (82.1 percent), compared to just 13 of 22 (59.1 percent) for the Big Green.

– Jalloh repeatedly drew fouls and got to the line, where he was 10 of 11 on the night. He finished with a game-best 22 points.

– Dartmouth did a fine job on the glass, limiting James Madison to 24.1-percent offensive rebounding while grabbing a healthy 35.5 percent themselves. However, the Big Green failed to capitalize on these extra opportunities, as second-chance points were even at 10 apiece.
