Keys to the Game
Key sequence Princeton’s lead had been shaved to a single point until Kyle Koncz knocked down two free throws with 7:59 left in the contest. Marcus Schroeder came up with a steal, and with the shot clock winding down, Lincoln Gunn hit huge a three-pointer. The Tigers missed an opportunity to further expand the lead when Noah Savage missed the front end of a one-and-one, and Iona drew back within four on a Milan Prodanovic layup. However, Schroeder responded with another crucial three-pointer to give Princeton a 57-50 advantage with six minutes remaining.
Key sign it was over Dexter Gray came up with a steal, giving the Gaels a chance to cut into a four-point deficit with under two minutes to play. However, Rashon Dwight turned it over, and Gunn suppled another critical three-pointer with the shot clock running low. Dwight couldn’t find the range on a three of his own, and Schroeder grabbed the defensive board and added two free throws to all but end the game with the Tigers ahead 64-55 and only 37 seconds to play.
Key performance Gunn did it all for Princeton, scoring a game-high 20 points on 6-for-10 shooting (4 of 6 from three), and dishing out a career-best six assists, to go with six rebounds. His big second-half three-pointers held of Iona charges and kept the Tigers afloat.
