Scout.com is reporting that Matt Johnson from Oaks Christian High School in California has committed to Columbia, choosing the Lions over offers from Harvard, Princeton, UC Davis, and other unnamed West Coast programs. The 6-7 Johnson is Joe Jones’s fourth commitment for next season — joining shooting guard Noruwa Agho, small forward Issa Mase, and sophomore transfer forward Brian Grimes.

Slant: Johnson has great size for a wing, and reportedly is blessed with decent athleticism. Scout.com says Johnson’s “overall skill level is solid, but not exceptional” and calls him “a likely mid major prospect.” With six combined wing and frontcourt recruits in his 2007 and 2008 recruiting classes, Jones likely still is seeking a commitment from a point guard as part of this year’s class.
