The season wound down with another anticlimactic Penn-Princeton game at Jadwin. With a number of programs already looking ahead to what promises to be an entertaining 2007-08 season, here’s who finished up strong this year.

1. | Penn (22-8, 13-1 Ivy) | 1 | Unlike last season, the Quakers avoided an upset down the stretch, getting some nice revenge on Yale and sticking it to arch rival Princeton along the way. Now we’ll find out if Glen Miller can find a way to get his team to do the one thing it has failed to do all season: compete with high-major opposition. |
2. | Yale (14-13, 10-4 Ivy) | 2 | The Bulldogs rallied to end the season on a positive note with the thrilling win at Princeton, ending a long losing streak at Jadwin Gym. However, the pair of ugly blowout losses to Columbia and Penn that immmediately preceeded that victory took a lot of the starch out of a breakout season. |
3. | Brown (11-18, 6-8 Ivy) | 4 | At 4-2 over the final three weekends, Craig Robinson’s team fared as well down the stretch as any team not named “Penn.” With potent scorers Damon Huffman and Mark McAndrew returning for one last go-around, the Bears may very well have something to contribute to next year’s title picture. |
4. | Columbia (16-12, 7-7 Ivy) | 5 | Don’t underestimate the importance of the Lions taking their final three games to finish at .500 in the league. Unlike past seasons when poor starts have led to poor finishes, Columbia served notice that it intends to contend next season with an experienced roster with a key senior at every position. |
5. | Cornell (16-12, 9-5 Ivy) | 3 | It’s hard to imagine how a team that played so well in its other games could be swept by the Brian Cusworth-less Crimson, but that was Cornell’s fate. Still, with four of the top freshmen in the league, the future is bright on East Hill and this season was a very positive step forward for the program. |
6. | Harvard (12-16, 5-9 Ivy) | 7 | The season sweep of Cornell wasn’t enough to save Frank Sullivan’s job, as someone else will be patrolling the sideline at Lavietes Pavilion this fall. Evan Harris, Drew Housman, and Jeremy Lin are a decent young nucleus, but the next coach will need to surround them with a supporting cast and some depth. |
7. | Dartmouth (9-18, 4-10 Ivy) | 6 | After a second-half comeback fell short on Friday at Columbia, the season ended on a very down note with the blowout in Ithaca. Leon Pattman will be a big scoring loss for the Big Green, but it will be time for next year’s juniors — led by Alex Barnett, Dan Biber, and DeVon Mosley — to step up. |
8. | Princeton (11-17, 2-12 Ivy) | 8 | A season that set another school record for another wrong reason mercifully came to an end with an fifth-straight loss in front of a sparse home crowd. Kyle Koncz now can get healthy, but the program’s future is going to hinge on the progress made by Zach Finley, Lincoln Gunn, and Marcus Schroeder. |
