Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Andrew Naeve’s layup at the 4:05 mark drew Cornell to within four, but Casey Hughes followed up Eric Flato’s missed jumper with a dunk. Hughes drew a foul and converted the free throw for a seven-point margin. Ryan Wittman was fouled, however the 90.7-percent free throw shooter made only one of two. Ross Morin missed the front end of a one-and-one, but Matt Kyle grabbed the offensive rebound and Flato drilled a three-pointer with 2:57 remaining for a 59-50 Yale lead. Louis Dale converted two free throws, only to see Flato strike again from beyond the arc to stretch the Bulldogs’ advantage to double digits with only 2:04 to play.

Key sign it was over |
Cornell trailed 62-55 after Louis Dale’s three-pointer at the 1:42 mark. Morin was perfect on two attempts at the line, before Wittman misfired on a three. The Big Red fouled Morin, who again missed the front end of a one-and-one, but Dale couldn’t connect from outside the arc, and Morin dunked on a fastbreak to push to Yale lead to 11. Dale’s jumper was off the mark, and though Cornell got another chance after the rebound went out of bounds off of Yale, Geoff Reeves’s shot missed as well. Fittingly, two Hughes free throws put the nail in the coffin, putting the Bulldogs up 68-55 with only 46 ticks on the clock.
