Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Following a very slow offensive start for both teams that saw a combined 14 points on the scoreboard in the first 10 minutes, Dartmouth scored eight unanswered points to take a 16-11 lead on a Leon Pattman layup at the 5:46 mark of the first half. However, Brown’s trapping 1-3-1 zone would wreak havoc on the Big Green, forcing eight turnovers in the final five minutes and holding Dartmouth scoreless the rest of the half. Meanwhile, the Bear offense got untracked in the final minutes, scoring on seven of the final nine possesions of the half — including some great feeds to cutters for layups. When the halftime buzzer sounded, Brown had used a 15-0 run to claim a 24-16 lead at intermission.

Key sign it was over |
Alex Barnett’s jumper made it a 36-28 game with 9:12 left, but Chris Skrelja answered with a jumpshot of his own at the other end to restore the lead to double digits. Mark MacDonald scored in the paint to push the margin to 12, but couldn’t finish off the conventional three-point play. Following a Pattman miss, Colin Aldridge found Damon Huffman for a layup. Dartmouth could two shots at its end, but couldn’t put the ball in the bucket, and Aldridge followed a Huffman miss with an athletic putback dunk that made it a 16-point game. Matt Mullery went one of two at the line, and then put the game away with a layup off a nice pass from Marcus Becker that completed an 11-0 run and gave the Bears a 19-point advantage.

Key performance |
Mark McAndrew didn’t get his first field goal until the 1:32 mark of the first half, but on the strength of 7-of-8 free throw shooting, Brown’s leading scorer finished the game with 13 points to go with 11 rebounds.
