Keys to the Game
Key sequence Harvard was hanging tough, down just 56-51 after Jim Goffredo’s lone three-pointer of the night at the 11:03 mark. The Crimson had a chance to make it a one-possession game after a Goffredo steal, but James Lambert’s jumper was off the mark, and Alexander Zampier connected from outside the arc to push Yale’s margin to eight. Harvard missed a pair of jumpers sandwiched around a Travis Pinick offensive foul, before Matt Kyle hit both free throws for a double-digit lead. A Brad Unger missed layup was followed by a Pinick lay-in, and after Goffredo misfired on a three, Pinick hit one of two at the line to cap off an 8-0 run that left the Bulldogs in front 64-51 with 8:01 remaining.
Key sign it was over Holding a 14-point lead inside of four minutes left, Yale got a jumper from Eric Flato, and following a turnover by Drew Housman, Flato added two free throws to give the Bulldogs their largest lead of the game at 78-60 with 2:59 remaining.
Key performance Pinick came off the bench to have one of the finest games of his career, scoring 16 points on efficient 7-for-9 shooting. The sophomore also dished out seven assists, hauled down five boards, and recorded a block and steal in just 20 minutes.
Key statistic Yale’s 62.7-percent shooting. The Bulldogs connected on 32 of their 51 attempts from the field — including 16 of 24 (66.7 percent) after halftime. After shooting 50.0 percent in the first half, Harvard was just 10 of 30 (33.3 percent) from the floor in the second stanza.
Notes

– Ross Morin had another strong outing, leading Yale with 19 points on 8-for-10 shoooting and handing out three assists to go with six rebounds.

– Housman and Unger shared high scoring honors for Harvard with 16 apiece.

– Yale entered the game with the second-lowest assist percentage in Ivy play at just 47.1 percent, but the Bulldogs recorded assists on 23 of their 32 field goals (71.9 percent). In additional to Pinick’s seven assists, Flato and Caleb Holmes each notched six dimes.

– Casey Hughes did not play due to a strained left foot, with Nick Holmes starting in his place.

– Following a 20-point effort at Brown, Goffredo had a cold shooting night, going 1-for-8 from three and 1-for-11 overall.

– The Crimson managed to control the glass against the league’s top rebounding team, grabbing 43.8 percent offensively against the nation’s top defensive rebounding team, while keeping the Bulldogs off the offensive boards to the tune of 30.4 percent at their end.

– Harvard returns home to host Ivy leader Penn (17-8, 8-1 Ivy) on Friday, February 23, at 7:00 pm, while Yale welcomes Cornell (14-10, 7-3 Ivy) to Lee Amphiteater for a game with huge title race implications.
