Keys to the Game
Key sequence Princeton appeared to weather a 12-0 Brown run bracketing halftime, closing to within two on a Marcus Schroeder three-pointer with 9:33 remaining. But Matt Mullery found Mark McAndrew for a response in kind at the other end, and after a Schroeder turnover, McAndrew struck again from three to push the Bear lead to eight. Edwin Buffmire attempted a shot from beyond the arc, but couldn’t answer, and after getting the ball back out of bounds, Justin Conway misfired on a jumper. Chris Skrelja and Noah Savage traded misses before McAndrew struck again on a three-pointer with 7:28 to play to finish off a personal 9-0 spurt to give Brown a comfortable 43-32 lead.
Key sign it was over Lincoln Gunn’s conventional three-point play brought the Tigers to within 47-40 with 4:43 remaining, but McAndrew found Becker for a layup to make it a nine-point game. Luke Owings couldn’t find the range from the outside, and after the two teams traded turnovers, McAndrew fed Mark MacDonald for a fastbreak layup to push the margin back to double digits at the 3:11 mark. Another exchange of turnovers followed, before Schroeder drew Princeton within nine with a layup. However, McAndrew canceled that out with a pair of free throws, and following a one-for-two effort at the line by Owings, Damon Huffman’s layup made it a 55-43 game. Mike Strittmatter couldn’t hit a jumper, and princeton fouled Skrelja, who hit both free throws to push the Brown lead to 14 with just 80 seconds remaining, at which point an 0-4 league mark for Princeton became inevitable.
Key performance McAndrew was the star of this one, leading all scorers with 19 points on 5-for-8 shooting and a 6-for-6 performance at the line. The junior guard also dished out five assists and hauled in six rebound while playing all 40 minutes.
Key statistic Brown went to the stripe 28 times, compared to just seven attempts for Princeton. The Bears outscored the Tigers 21-5 at the line, which more than made up for the five extra three-pointers hit by the visitors.

– In a battle between the two weakest rebounding teams in the league, it was Brown who dominated on the glass, rebounding at 45.5 percent offensively while holding Princeton to just 11.5 percent at its offensive end, resulting in a 10-0 edge in second-chance points for the Bears.

– The Bears had their way inside in general, holding a 30-16 advantage in points in the paint.

– Princeton only lost the turnover battle 14-13, but Brown outscored the Tigers 18-10 in points off turnovers.

– Craig Robinson (Princeton ’83) won his first-ever meeting with his alma mater.

– In addition setting a new school record for the worst Ivy start at 0-4, this is only the second time in program history that Princeton has been swept twice on Ivy League road weekends, with the other coming while Joe Scott was playing for the Tigers back in the 1985-86 season.

– Schroeder went to the bench for only the fifth time this season, receiving a 2:50 rest late in the first half, during which time Princeton failed to score.

– Kyle Koncz’s foot injury limited him to just nine minutes, during which time he scored three points, going 1-for-4 from three.

– Princeton will look for its first Ivy win when Harvard (10-10, 3-3 Ivy) pays a visit to Jadwin Gym on Friday, February 9 at 7:30 pm ET, while Brown will look to take this momentum into a challenging road game at Cornell (11-9, 4-2 Ivy) at 7:00 pm ET.
