Keys to the Game
Key sequence With 7:58 remaining, Mark McAndrew faked out Tommy McMahon for an open jumper that cut the Quaker lead to 11 points at 63-52. However, 30 seconds later, Mark Zoller worked his way out of a jam to kick it out to Ibrahim Jaaber, who hit an open three-pointer from the right side of the arc to push the margin up to 14 points. After a missed jumper by Mark MacDonald, Jaaber got caught in traffic at the other end, but got the ball out to an open Darren Smith on the right wing, who hit a jumper that made it a 68-52 contest with 7:02 left to play.
Key sign it was over After a Kevin Egee three gave Penn its largest lead of the night at 19 with just under five minutes left, Brown scored the next four points to close within 15. But the Quakers grabbed two offensive rebounds and Jaaber eventually hit two free throws to make it a 75-58 game with less than two minutes remaining.
Key performance Zoller shot 7 of 13 from the field, including 3 of 4 from three-point range, and added a free throw for a game-high 18 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds — including four on offense — while dishing out five assists and recording two steals, despite playing through foul trouble.
Key statistic Penn scorched Brown’s zone from the outside, shoot 12-for-20 (60.0 percent) from three-point range on the night. The Quakers were 7-for-10 in the first half and 5-for-10 in the second half. At the other end, the Bears shot only 3-for-14 (21.4 percent) from beyond the arc.
