Key sequence With the crowd roaring after an 8-1 Dartmouth run had given the Big Green its first lead of the second half at 51-50, Eric Flato alertly avoided a five-second call by bouncing the ball off the back of the Dartmouth defender directly in front of him. Flato collected the carom drew the foul, hitting both free throws to give Yale the lead for good, 52-51. After a Dartmouth miss, Yale got another bizarre conversion, when John Ball blocked a shot down at the floor and the ball bounced high and directly into the hands of Flato at the top of the key. The Yale point guard stroked a gift three-pointer to put Yale up four. Alexander Zampier followed with a triple and a pair of free throws to cap an 8-0 Yale run that de-Flato-ed Dartmouth and its crowd.
Key sign it was over A DeVon Mosley steal and breakaway layup pulled Dartmouth to 65-61 with 33.1 seconds left. Caleb Holmes immediately was fouled, and swished two free throws for a six-point lead. When Leon Pattman’s layup rimmed out with 18 seconds left, Holmes knocked down another pair of free throws to boost the lead to 69-61 with 15 seconds to go.
Key performance Flato scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-6 from long range and 3-for-3 from the line. He also had three rebounds and three assists while playing a team-high 35 minutes for the Bulldogs.
Key statistic Yale owned a big 23-14 edge in free throw attempts, and outscored Dartmouth 17-8 from the line. The Bulldogs also shot much better at the line (73.9 percent) than the Big Green (57.1 percent).
Notes

– Dan Biber tied for the team lead with a season-high 15 points. He was joined by Pattman, though the senior shot just 5 of 16 (31.3 percent) from the field and 1 of 5 from three.

– Casey Hughes had just three field goals for Yale but all three were dunks.

– Ball capped a big weekend with his first career double-double: an 11-point, 10-rebound effort. He was 5-for-7 from the field against Yale and shot 11 of 16 (68.8 percent) in the two games.

– Yale swept the Harvard-Dartmouth road weekend for the first time in four years and has won its opening three Ivy road games for the first time since its 2001-02 tri-championship season.

– The Big Green committed only six turnovers, compared to 14 for the Bulldogs, but didn’t really take advantage, outscoring the visitors just 14-12 in points off turnovers.

– Yale’s bench outscored Dartmouth’s reserves 14-2.

– The Bulldogs rebounded a 33.3 percent offensively, while holding the Big Green to just 25.0 percent, though Dartmouth actually managed to outscore Yale 16-10.

– Yale hosts Princeton (9-6, 0-2 Ivy), while Dartmouth welcomes Cornell (10-8, 3-1 Ivy) to Leede Arena on Friday, February 2 at 7:00 pm ET.
