Penn, Yale join ranks of Internet video broadcasts

Penn has announced the Penn Sports Network, its package of live and on-demand streaming audio and video, and Yale has added links to video feeds of home games on its official site, bringing to seven the number of Ivy teams offering Internet video broadcasts of home games. Cornell was the first to offer Internet video broadcasts two seasons ago, and Harvard got into the game last year. Columbia, Dartmouth, and Princeton all began offering video this season after switching website providers from CSTV to XOS. This leaves Brown as the lone Internet video holdout in the league.

Slant: Brown needs to join the others in offering these broadcasts, and the Ivy office needs to muster whatever clout it has to make sure there is a league-wide package in place next season. As mentioned previously, at least one school balked at sharing its existing home video feed with visiting schools, wrecking any chance for a multi-school package this year. That uncooperative attitude and short-sighted thinking have to go, because they’re directly hurting their own fans, who don’t get to see video from away games. It’s also bad for the Ivy League, which is why if this stance continues, the other schools will need to step in and apply some pressure in the best interest of the league.
