Keys to the Game
Key sequence Three possessions into the game, Marywood was leading 2-0 and all Columbia had to show for itself was a missed three-pointer and a turnover. But things quickly changed, as the Lions scored on six of their next eight possessions while ripping off 16 unanswered points. Just over five minutes in, Columbia led 16-2, and it never looked back, pummeling the Division III Pacers.
Key sign it was over This one was over at halftime, by which point the Lions had taken a 53-21 lead into the locker room.
Key performance K.J. Matsui tied for team high-scoring honors with 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting in just 13 minutes.
Key statistic Columbia held its guests to anemic 12-of-52 shooting (23.1 percent), including just 5 of 29 (17.2 percent) in the second half.
Notes

– Marywood’s Adam Wildasin was the game’s top scorer with 16 points, albeit on 6-for-17 shooting.

– The game was an opportunity for Joe Jones to play some of his bench guys, as no Columbia starter played more than seven minutes.

– Leo Nolan and Kevin Bulger tied for the highest minute total for the Lions with 24. Nolan tallied nine points and 10 rebounds, while Bulger chipped in with 11 points and eight boards.

– Columbia shot 7 of 16 (43.8 percent) from three in the first half, but missed all eight attempts from distance after halftime.

– The Lions held Marywood to just two assists on the afternoon.

– Things get much tougher for Columbia next weekend, when Princeton (9-4) visits Levien Gym on Friday, January 12, at 7:00 pm ET.
