Joe Scott has his first frontcout commitment of the 2007 recruiting class, as Princeton Basketball News confirms Kareem Maddox of Oak Park, CA, will attend Princeton next season. There’s no word on who else was on Maddox’s short list, but Cornell was mentioned as a suitor back in February. The athletic 6-6 forward has some versatility in his game, blocking shots and rebounding well in the post, while showing an ability to drift out and score from the perimeter as well Maddox joins point guard Jeff Peterson and wing Jason Liberman in Scott’s third crop of recruits.
Slant: Scott loves players capable of playing multiple positions, and Maddox appears to be no exception. He should be able to play either forward spot at Princeton, and while he needs to improve on his 31-percent three-point shooting, it shows that he can hit the outside shot. Maddox’s athleticism could come in handy on a team lacking quickness and inside scoring punch and without many players capable of creating their own shot. The Tigers are set to graduate just three seniors this year, but with some unrecruited players on the roster, it will be interesting to see if Scott elects to bring additional recruits this year — possibly a big man.
