Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Sacred Heart’s lead had been fluctuating between eight and 12 points for about four minutes, when the Pioneers put together a 12-2 run, scoring on six straight possessions to push their advantage to 18. After a Liam Potter jumper, Jarrid Frye came up with a steal and fed Drew Shubi for a fastbreak layup. Casey Hughes was called for an offensive foul, and Shubik found Potter for a dunk. Hughes couldn’t convert a layup, but Matt Kyle only could get one of two at the line after grabbing the offensive board. Tavio Hobson had no problem hitting a layup, and after Sam Kaplan went 1-for-2 at the line, Hobson hit a jumper. When Frye came up with another steal, Chauncy Hardy finished the break with a dunk to make it a 57-39 game with 15:30 left.

Key sign it was over |
Yale was able to put together second-half runs of 10-0 and 10-2 to close within five points at 85-80 on a Ross Morin three-point play at the 1:44 mark. But with the shot clock close to expiring, Hobson got inside for a layup, foul, and free throw to make it an eight-point game with 71 seconds remaining. Hughes couldn’t find the range on a three-pointer on the next possession, and after a Frye free throw, Morin misfired on a jumper and Joey Henley hit a free throw to give the Pioneers a double-digit lead. When Sacred Heart rebounded an Eric Flato missed three-pointer with 35 seconds left, the Bulldogs were starting a sixth-straight loss in the face.

Key performance |
With six Pioneers in double figures, it’s tough to pick out one individual performance. But Frye’s 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals edge out Henley’s 14 points in 16 minutes off the bench. Frye had his fingerprints all over the crucial Sacred Heart runs, and played an excellent all-around game.

Key statistic |
