Keys to the Game
Key sequence Kansas won the opening tip and threw down an alley oop dunk on its first possession, 11 seconds into the game. A shorthanded Dartmouth lineup couldn’t do much of anything offensively against the tough Jayhawk defense, while the hosts rolled up an 18-2 run to start the game. The Big Green wouldn’t hit its second field goal of the contest until nearly the midpoint of the first half.
Key sign it was over The Jayhawks got dunks on two of their final three possessions of the first half to go into the locker room with a 40-13 lead. The second half wouldn’t get any better for the Big Green, as Bill Self was able to give his deep bench extended minutes.
Key performance It’s nearly impossible to credit an individual offensive performance in game like this, but the Jayhawks’ Darnell Jackson had the most impressive line of the night. Jackson came off the bench to record a double-double in just 19 minutes of playing time, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds..
Key statistic Kansas attempted 19 more shots than Dartmouth and hit 19 more field goals than the Big Green, accounting for the vast majority of the scoring disparity.
