Keys |
Key sequence |
Princeton had seen its 17-point lead trimmed down to just one point on a Wyoming three-pointer with 3:34 left. With the shot clock under 10 seconds, Kyle Koncz took and hit a long three-pointer from the left wing to restore the lead to two possessions at the 3:01 mark. |
Key sign it was over |
After two scoreless minutes and with the shot clock once again winding down, Koncz hit another huge three-pointer from the corner to give the Tigers a seven-point lead with under a minute to play. Wyoming would get no closer than five points back the rest of the way. |
Key performance |
Who else could it be but Kyle Koncz? The seldom-used sophomore came up one point shy of equaling his career scoring total with 18 points in his first collegiate start. Playing all 40 minutes, Koncz connected on 5 of 12 three-point attempts |
Key statistic |
16 free throw attempts for Wyoming. The Cowboys entered the contest getting over 30 percent of their offense from the free throw line, and Princeton has had major problems with fouling opponents under Joe Scott. After allowing Wyoming to shoot 45 free throws in last year’s double-overtime affair in Laramie, the Tigers did an excellent job of not giving the Cowboys easy points this time around. |
Key coaching move |
Impressed with the way his offense clicked in the second half of the previous game against Temple, Joe Scott shook up his lineup, starting Koncz and bringing Luke Owings off the bench. Both players responded very well to the move, combining to score 35 of Princeton’s 59 points. |

Notes |
– |
Senior captain Scott Greenman did not play after injuring his back earlier in the week and leaving early on in the Temple game. Sophomore Kevin Steuerer again filled in for Greenman at point guard, this time playing all 40 minutes. |
|
– |
The Tigers matched Wyoming with six offensive rebounds. This was quite an accomplishment considering the Cowboys came into the contest ranked 54th nationally in offensive rebounding, while Princeton was 320th on the defensive glass. |
|
– |
Wyoming forward Justin Williams blocked eight Princeton shots on the night, but didn’t attempt a field goal or record an assist in 34 minutes on the court. |

Quotes |
Princeton coach Joe Scott
On his team’s recovery after blowing a big lead:
"This team is growing. We need to know how to extend a lead and build it, but it was also good to be able to respond when things get hard, because there’s a point in every game where it’s going to get difficult."" |
|
Princeton forward Kyle Koncz
On his big shot:
"I was recruited here to be a shooter and I’ve gotten a lot more confidence in the last few weeks. Luke [Owings] skipped the ball to me and my defender was laying a little off of me, so I thought that we weren’t going to get a better shot than that." |
