Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Keenan Jeppesen cut the Columbia lead to six with a layup at the 14:42 mark of the second half. The Lions responded with an 11-2 run to open up a 15-point lead. Four different Columbia players scored during the run, with four of the five buckets coming off assists. |
Key sign it was over |
Jeppesen’s sixth layup of the game made it an 11-point game with 1:13 left. Columbia game Brown a chance to stage a late rally with a pair of turnovers sandwiched around a missed front end of a one-and-one. However, Damon Huffman and Mark MacDonald both missed three-pointers, and by the time Huffman finally connected from the outside to cut the deficit to eight, only 24 seconds remained. John Baumann hit two free throws to kill off any chance of a miraculous Brown rally. |
Key performance |
Justin Armstrong. The reigning Ivy Player of the Week followed up last weekend’s breakthrough performances with another strong game, scoring a team-high 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Armstrong also added five rebounds, four assists, a block and two steals in 27 minutes. |
Key statistic |
Columbia’s 21-9 advantage in second-chance points. The Lions only grabbed three more offensive rebounds than the Bears, but they were much better at taking advantage of these additional opportunities. Columbia owed its nine-point halftime lead to a 19-2 edge in first-half second-chance points. |
